This sounds a little like counseling. What’s the difference?
Counseling typically addresses issues from the past and how they are impacting current situations.
Coaching deals with the here and now. It’s a process of powerful questioning that helps the client look at present situations and/or behaviors that are preventing them from reaching their full potential. The coach then helps the client to set goals and formulate their OWN plan to move forward and reach those goals.
How old does my child need to be?
I work with kids who are 8 years and older.
I also coach parents and families.
Where do the coaching sessions take place?
For local children, I like to meet in person. Kids typically feel more connected when we are face to face. My office is located in Jupiter, FL. For adults and children outside my local area, sessions are conducted over the phone. Each session is 50 minutes.
How long do you usually work with a client?
For private coaching, I recommend that my clients commit to working with me once a week for 10 weeks. Old patterns and habits take time to undo, and new mindsets take time to become established and routine.
I also offer groups classes. Classes typically run 5 or 6 weeks, meeting once per week.
Will there be homework?
Yes, but I like to call it “lifework.” Assignments vary depending on the child. They can take anywhere from a few minutes to a couple hours to complete. Your child and I will map out a plan for accountability and most of the time I will ask that you not help them with their lifework.
How can I best support my child on their journey?
Simply being supportive and compassionate is a great start. Understand that they may or may not want to talk about their coaching sessions. The best thing you can do is listen when they want you to, and give them space when they need it.
